It was my honor to have the opportunity to interview one of the greatest body builders of all time Lee Labrada. If you don’t know who he is, here are just a few of his many accomplishments:
-Winner of 22 major body building awards including Mr. Universe
-Published author of a Barnes & Nobles Best Seller called The Lean Body Promise: Burn Away Fat and Release the Leaner, Stronger Body Inside You
-Inducted into the IFBB Hall of Fame
-Owner and CEO of Labrada Nutrition
We discussed everything from what to eat in order to build muscle, how to work out, when to use body weight exercises, and more. Click play above to watch the full interview. Or you can read some of my notes below.
Lee’s Approach To Workouts & Meals…
Lee has a very balanced approach when it comes to building muscle. He doesn’t like to spend more than an hour in the gym lifting weights. He states that any extra time is really unnecessary if you keep your intensity high enough.
Lee also stresses the importance of balancing your meals. He starts off with about 30 grams of protein in the form of chicken, fish, egg whites, low-fat cottage cheese or a protein shake. After that, he adds complex carbohydrates like oatmeal, rice, beans, yams, etc. Finally, to balance out the meal, Lee consumes healthy fats such as fish oil, salmon, nuts, seeds and avocado.
Lee’s Philosophy on Supplements…
In the interview, Lee states that the most important supplement to start off with is food. This is the building block and will provide your basic essentials needed to build muscle. Supplements are to be used to “fill in the gaps” and provide convenience. Consuming a protein shake or a meal replacement is a great way to give your body the nutrients it needs.
